The Centre for Technology Innovation (CTI) is calling for applications for its 2016 Software Engineering Scholarship positions. Located in Lagos, CTI deploys an interdisciplinary approach that combines learning in the liberal arts with core computer programming modules, rooted deeply in practice-based learning. CTI aims to train engineers who can write good code, develop critical thinking skills and appreciate the consequences of technological innovation in a developing world context. The program is full-time, free and for 12 months. Students spend six months in full time training, and then go into six month placements at partner technology companies for industrial experience. All past students who have successfully completed the program are currently employed or building startups of their own.

Why CTI?

1. We don’t just teach you how to code. We teach you problem solving skills, critical and creative thinking, that are applicable to disciplines beyond software engineering.

2. You learn software engineering through an immersive project-based learning process.

3. You learn how to invent. All successful graduates develop a product of their own.

4. CTI has the highest faculty to student ratio in Nigeria and most of its faculty have PhDs and teaching experience from universities in Europe and North America. You also get to learn directly from experienced engineers and academics, and attend talks and workshops by leading technology entrepreneurs and academics.

5. All successful graduates are guaranteed a job at partner technology companies.

6. Exceptional innovators receive support through CTI’s venture unit to develop their products in residence at CTI.

7. You can apply from any discipline and no software development experience is required. Accepted candidates receive a monthly stipend starting at N40,000, in addition to a housing allowance. Also included are free computing facilities, free high speed internet, access to books, learning resources and hands-on direction and support from practicing software engineers, entrepreneurs and academics with broad international experience.

The ideal candidate for a CTI scholarship is a highly motivated individual who possess the discipline to conduct independent scholarship, the ability to think creatively and a strong disposition toward building things.
